Best of Cairo Egypt

Cairo is Egypt’s great metropolitan city. It’s busy, crowded, and bursting at the seams with tourists eager for a glimpse of its treasures! A day in Cairo will leave you exhausted from the noise and movement, but you’ll also find yourself drawn in by the intoxicating rhythm of the city.

Pyramids of Giza

Probably the most famous site in Egypt and guarded by the Great Sphinx, Giza has fascinated the world for a at least a century.

The pyramids are on the opposite side of town from most of the other attractions. Be sure you arrive here early, so you’ll have plenty of time to see everything while the sun is still out. Also, find a guide to show you around. There’s a lot to learn! You can see all three of the pyramids as well as the Sphinx. There’s a lot of walking, so wear good shoes! You can ride a camel, if you like, but be a hard negotiator for a good price before you commit to mounting.

Pro Tip(s):

  • Skip the sound and light show by the pyramids at night.  It is a waste of money and time.

Egyptian Museum

No visit to Egypt is complete without a trip through its galleries. This museum houses the largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. If you’re a pharaoh aficionado, be sure to spend plenty of time here.

Citadel

The Salah Al-Deen (know as Saladin to European historians) Citadel was the centerpiece of great fortifications, protecting the city from the heights of the rocky hills that overlooked it. Completed in 1183 AD, Saladin’s Citadel served as the seat of government in Egypt for 700 years. It was built in medieval times and stands as proudly today as it did back then! You can get an awesome view of the city from the hill where it is built.

Al-Azhar Park

An oasis in the middle of an old dusty city, you will absolutely love this park! We sure did. This is a great place to start your Egyptian adventures. Make sure your camera is charged before you go so you can take plenty of photos!

When you visit, come hungry. There are a few restaurants in the area, and they have great food. They are also beautiful! You have to try the buffet place on top of the hill, because it offers wonderful views of the park with your meal. It’s expensive, but worth it.
